Nymphenburg Palace Park: Opening Hours, Free Areas and the Pavilions
The park costs nothing and is open all year. The side gates close earlier, and in winter everything shuts at 18:00.

The park behind Nymphenburg Palace is the largest part of the site and the only part you pay nothing for. It covers roughly 180 hectares, was a baroque garden until the early nineteenth century and was then reshaped into an English landscape park; the central axis with the canal is what remains of the baroque plan. You do not need a ticket, but you do need to know the gate times: they change four times a year.
The park is free, but the side gates close half an hour earlier than the main gate, and in winter everything shuts at 18:00.

The park does not run on a simple summer and winter schedule but on four periods. At the main gate: main gate May–Sep 6:00–21:30, Apr + Oct 6:00–20:00; in the winter season main gate Nov–March 6:00–18:00. Opening is at 6:00 all year round, which makes the park the quietest place in the western half of the city in the morning.
The detail that is missing almost everywhere: the other gates close half an hour earlier than the main gate. Walk out through a side gate in May and you will find it locked at 21:00 while the main gate is still open until 21:30. It is worth planning the way back past the palace.

The park itself is open all year. What stands inside it is not: the 4 park pavilions and the Sckell exhibition in the Geranienhaus close completely for the winter season, and the Botanical Garden shortens its hours. A winter walk works; a winter visit to the pavilions does not.

What costs nothing in the palace park
Of the 7 attractions on the site, 2 are free to enter: the park itself and the Sckell exhibition in the Geranienhaus. That is unusual for Munich; here the free part carries half a day on its own.
Two more things run only at certain times of year and also cost nothing. The fountains: Easter to mid-October daily 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00. And the historic pumping stations that drive them, which can be visited: Easter to early October daily 10:00–16:00, in the Grünes Brunnhaus and the Johannisbrunnhaus. Both are tied to the warm half of the year and appear on no ticket.
The 4 park pavilions
Four small buildings stand in the park and cost 6 € · reduced 5 € together, included in the combined palace ticket: Amalienburg, Badenburg, Pagodenburg, Magdalenenklause. They are the reason the combined ticket pays off in summer and not in winter, when they are closed.

One thing surprises people at the ticket desk: tickets for the pavilions are not sold at the pavilions. They are sold at the palace, at the Marstallmuseum or online. If you walk straight into the park and only then decide you want to see the Amalienburg, you walk back.
The Botanical Garden is in the park but not part of it
The Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg begins at the northern edge of the park, 610 m from the palace, with its own entrance on Menzinger Straße. It has a different operator, a different ticket desk and its own ticket: 5.50 € · reduced 4 €.
The tip that saves money there: in the winter season the outdoor grounds are free and you pay only for the glasshouses. The hours differ from the park as well: outdoor grounds 9:00–18:00, glasshouses 9:00–17:30 (29.03.–24.10.) in summer, outdoor grounds 9:00–16:30, glasshouses 9:00–16:00 (25.10.–27.03.) in winter. The Botanical Garden changes season on 25 October; the park never does.

Getting to the park
S-Bahn to Laim, dann Bus to Schloss Nymphenburg; alternatively U-Bahn to Rotkreuzplatz, dann Tram to Schloss Nymphenburg. By car there are 450 parking spaces. From the park the Königlicher Hirschgarten is 1.1 km away, the largest beer garden in Europe, on foot.
